Mainfranken. Many Treasures.
The winning concept is simple: Variety. Add to that a culturally open-minded population and you get outstanding performances and events. For example, the Africa Festival is the largest celebration of African music and culture outside that continent. It takes place every year in Würzburg and always attracts record crowds.
Not as rhythmic but maybe more topnotch is the annual Mozart Fest which has been running for over 90 years now. And there is so much more: Health resort concerts, classical performances, traditional folk music, experimental college orchestra performances, and the usual pop, rock, and jazz concerts of all kinds. The University of Music in Würzburg educates much of the area’s musical talent.
The Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg manages to impress its critics year after year. Outstanding theater productions can also be enjoyed at much smaller venues, lay theaters and comedy clubs. The variety is truly amazing. And let’s not forget the local stars, such as Erwin Pelzig who has become a household name all over Mainfranken.
The museums in Mainfranken are another outstanding cultural feature of the area. The Museum Georg Schäfer in Schweinfurt has one of the best private art collections on the planet. The Mainfränkisches Museum is home to the largest selection of works by Tilman Riemenschneider in the world. The most important question is: Where do I go first?
